Welcome! I'm Laurie Farrell, founder of Ki Soma.
I chose to pursue Shiatsu therapy training after experiencing first hand how powerful and effective it is. I was appreciative and fascinated with this traditional Chinese medicine based practice that foundationally respects the body (soma), mind and emotions as equal components in need of balance to optimize health & foster life fulfillment.
I'm passionate about supporting those who care for others by offering a quiet & non-judgemental space for all to rest, balance and feel more at home in their bodies. I seek to provide a gentle presence for those experiencing grief from the myriad of situations that bring feelings of loss. In the constant presence of a parent or guardian, I will work with children & adolescents.
My life journey to date graces me with the titles; high school & college mom, wife, sister, breast cancer survivor, cat mom, yard enthusiast, music lover, Shotokan black belt, art "collector", ancestry tracker and spiritual sojourner.
My desire to serve in a wellness space is grounded in three decades as a Physician Associate (pka Assistant) in general surgery, surgical oncology then plastics and reconstructive surgery. I entered healthcare due to my love of science. In hospital practice I demonstrate the ability to bring a steady, calm and compassionate demeanor into situations that range from static to chaotic, somber to joyful.
My studies at Zen Shiatsu Chicago in Evanston, IL included 715 hours of didactic & clinical studies. Electives most relevent to my current practice included: gua sha, cupping, Thai massage & Craniosacral therapy. I completed all elements necessary to obtain my massage therapy license in Illinois.
Thank you if you've read this far! I look forward to meeting you and working with your body's healing wisdom to bring your Mind Body and Heart into Harmony.
